From 2008 to 2016 he was working as a Professor, Instructional Designer, and Director of Student Affairs. In 2015 he was called to the ministry. He was planting a church in San German, Puerto Rico from 2015 to 2018 with the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Puerto Rico and then served from 2018 to 2021 as Senior Pastor of the Quinto Centenario Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.

In May 2021, he moved from Puerto Rico to the state of Rhode Island to be part of NEU Church Planting with a view to planting a Hispanic church in the city of Central Falls, RI. Immediately Jonathan along with his beloved wife Tereangeli Toledo and Elizabeth Berry began to connect with the community, evangelize, and offer biblical counseling. In July 2022, Jonathan began offering Bible studies in his living room and on November 19, 2023, Iglesia Cristiana Centrados en el Evangelio was officially born, in which Jonathan serves as its senior pastor. Jonathan is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky.

Pastor Jonathan Lugo has been married to Tereangeli Toledo since 2005 and God has blessed them with 3 beautiful children (Jonathan, Joangi, and Abdiel).

Tereangeli Toledo is the wife of Pastor Jonathan Lugo. Within Iglesia Cristiana Centrados en el Evangelio, Tereangeli performs different functions. Among the functions she performs are one-on-one discipleship to the women of the church, discipleship to married couples with the pastor, support in administration, biblical counseling with the pastor and she is part of the worship and praise ministry. Tereangeli is also a 5th grade teacher at Veterans Memorial Elementary School located in Central Falls. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from 4th to 6th grade from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico.

Elizabeth joined NEU in 2021 to work alongside Jonathan and Tere to see a church planted in Central Falls, Rhode Island. She previously served internationally and at her sending church in Florida. Elizabeth holds a bachelors in social work from Florida State University and is completing her Masters in Biblical Counseling at Westminster Theological Seminary. She works as a teacher and after-school program coordinator in the community of Central Falls and serves in the church in children's ministry, discipleship, and counseling.
